With the limitations from the recent lockdowns, we’ve all had to centre our lives to be more revolved around the home. But sometimes, spending a lot of time at home can be a little tedious. We’ve compiled a handy list of stimulating at home activity suggestions to ensure you can enjoy your time indoors!
At home activity suggestions
Silk painting
We discovered silk painting in lockdown number 1! This enjoyable activity is low-maintenance, and you don’t need to be an artist to create beautiful work. Silk painting is as it sounds- painting on silk! The silk blends the colours creating easy tie-die effects and the raised edges of the outlines mean you won’t accidentally bleed into another section. Order silk painting kits from online shops like Silkcraft or from local craft store.
Card making
Shops like Hobbycraft, The Works and The Range offer a wide variety of card-making materials. Simply buy blank cards and envelopes and your choice of decorations and get to work! Depending on your dexterity, you can choose easy stick-on designs, or more complex ribbon and bead work.
Paint by numbers
Paint by number kits are ideal for people looking to create something new, without the pressure of having to draw and mix colours themselves. You can order a4 paper, large scale canvases and everything in between!
Baking
We all remember the shortage of flour during lockdown number 1! Baking has become a very poplar pastime over the past year. Why not get in the baking mood and try a new recipe? For new bakers, we’d recommend an easy banana bread recipe. Top tip! Throw in some chocolate chips for something a little extra.
Gardening
If you have a garden- fantastic! If not, don’t despair. Create your own garden indoors with a variety of houseplants, or on your balcony. Having plants around you can help elevate your mood and clean your air – plus they look pretty! If you fancy having a go at growing something from scratch, why not try a grow your own bonsai or succulent kit?
Games
Jigsaws improve hand-eye coordination and dexterity and are a fun and stimulating way to pass the time. Crosswords and sudoku are fantastic for keeping the mind active.
